You’ve been hearing about it everywhere, but what exactly is Pinterest and what do you do with it?
The simple answer is Pinterest is a virtual inspiration board where you can “pin” anything you find on the web that interests you.
Pinterest is a website that allows you to “pin” things online just the same way you would put them on a cork board in real life. The difference is (apart from being online) is that Pinterest lets you keep them all on your account so that you can access them easily, not only that but once you’re set up you can follow your friends, and “repin” things that they’ve already pinned on their boards straight onto yours!
So, how do you get started? Well at this stage you it’s by invite only via the website, don’t worry you’ll get through the waitlist pretty quickly. Alternatively, you can ask a friend who already has an account (like moi ).
Once you have your account, you’ll need to set up the “Pin It” button installed on your browser (you can also get it as an app for your phone), and this is where the magic begins. You’re browsing the web looking for a new pair of sparkly vegan heels you find them and with a simple click of your “Pin It” button it will look for images to save to your account, voila! The images are stored on your account and once you click the image you’ll be redirected to the original site.
You can also upload photos from your computer or add a “pin” by copying and pasting the url.
You can set up as many boards as you like with separate categories for easy access, for example a board for fashion, another for recipes, and yet another for home decor.
What makes Pinterest so addictive? The live feed of items being “pinned” by strangers, some of the boards are simply stunning, ( Book Porn is one of my favourites ) and it’s sates our voyeuristic need to know what our friends are up to. It’s also a fantastic tool when you’re searching for inspiration, from articles of clothing to articles that will change your life it’s all there.
I’ve been looking at a few people’s boards for weeks now and finally took the plunge this week and created my own account, so far I’ve started a “Fashion I’m Loving” board and a “Vegan Recipes” one, so much more to come.
So go along to the website and request an invite, just don’t come complaining to me that it’s taking up too many hours in your day, you’ve been warned of its addictive powers
Have you got your own Pinterest account yet? I’d love to hear in the comment box below what you “pin”. Or if you haven’t taken the plunge yet or if you have more questions let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them for you.
Bubbles of Love from me to you!
